The Do Dham Yatra — combining Kedarnath and Badrinath — is the most popular short pilgrimage circuit in Uttarakhand. It can be completed in 5–6 days from Haridwar and represents the two most visited and revered shrines of the Char Dham circuit. For those who cannot undertake the full Char Dham, the Do Dham offers an equally powerful spiritual experience.

What is Do Dham Yatra?

"Do Dham" means "two abodes" — specifically referring to Kedarnath (the abode of Lord Shiva) and Badrinath (the abode of Lord Vishnu). Together, these two temples represent the Shaiva and Vaishnava traditions of Hinduism and are often visited together because of their geographical proximity. Both are located in the Garhwal Himalayas and accessible from the same base cities (Haridwar/Rishikesh).

Best Route and Days Required

Day 1: Haridwar → Guptkashi/Phata (290 km | 9–10 hours) Day 2: Kedarnath trek/helicopter, darshan, overnight at Kedarnath Day 3: Return from Kedarnath → Joshimath (200 km | 7 hours) Day 4: Badrinath darshan + Mana Village → Return to Joshimath Day 5: Joshimath → Haridwar (260 km | 8–9 hours)

Total: 5 days, covering approximately 1,000 km by road.

Registration is mandatory for both Kedarnath and Badrinath on the Uttarakhand Tourism portal. Daily limits apply — register well in advance.

Accommodation Suggestions

Near Kedarnath: Stay in Phata, Sitapur, or Guptkashi. For the night at Kedarnath itself, book GMVN or private tent accommodations months in advance. Near Badrinath: Joshimath has the best accommodation options.

Best Time for Do Dham Yatra

May, early June, and September-October are ideal. The Do Dham is slightly easier to plan than the full Char Dham as it requires fewer days and less backtracking.
