Cold Snap isn't just "snow on the same old map." It changes how every run feels, from your first steps out of shelter to the last mad sprint to extraction. You'll notice it fast: sightlines get weird, audio cues feel muffled, and fights drag you into places you didn't plan to be. If you're stocking up for winter runs, I've seen a lot of players start by sorting their ARC Raiders Items early, because the new conditions punish lazy loadouts.
1) Weather That Actually Matters
The Cold Snap condition isn't just mood lighting. It pushes you into riskier routes and makes "safe" rotations feel exposed. Then Flickering Flames shows up and flips the tempo again, like the game's daring you to stay out longer than you should. And yeah, the snowballs are in there. They're funny for about ten seconds, right up until someone uses the chaos to close distance and you realise you've been baited into a bad angle.
2) Builds, Money, and the New Reset Pressure
Skill Tree resets are finally here, which sounds like freedom until you see the bill. Refunding skill points costs 2,000 coins per point, so messing around "just to test" is a great way to go broke. The new credit cap also changes the endgame habit of sitting on piles of points after finishing Raider Decks; now you're nudged to spend, craft, and keep moving. Also worth remembering: the free "Goalie" Raider Deck drops on December 26, so it's smart to leave yourself room to actually use it instead of being locked into a plan you can't afford to unwind.
3) Movement Feels Heavier for a Reason
The slide change is bigger than it looks on paper. Entering a slide now burns Stamina, so the old habit of chain-sliding through gunfire doesn't hold up. You've got to pick your exits and commit. The upside is the UI got a couple of solid wins: tracking specific resources for projects saves time on scav runs, and the Codex letting you replay unlocked cinematics is a nice touch if you care about the world and not just the loot.
4) Loot Routes and Enemy Threat Spikes
Farming targets need a rethink. The Aphelion Blueprint isn't on the Matriarch anymore, so chasing that fight is just muscle memory at this point; head for Stella Montis instead. Pink Keycard Rooms have been buffed and are finally worth the nerves, and even Electromagnetic Storms can pay out now since lightning strikes may drop valuable items. The catch is combat's nastier across the board. Shredders, especially, feel like they've had their brakes removed: faster pathing, sharper reactions, and way more aggression. If you hesitate, they don't. That's why plenty of squads are tightening their plan, gearing up with intent, and choosing when to buy ARC Raiders weapons so they're not gambling an entire run on hope.
